Another source of free information is the UKs National Health Service's Clinical Knowledge Summaries. Search on "cks library" to get to the website. Then click on H then Haemorrhoids then Detailed Answers. Then read the Advice and Treatments Recommended section.
Chemists who have been around a while can be very helpful so don't forget to talk to them. For me drinking plenty of water, a high fibre diet, and Normacol work. When things have settled down walking is also good.
